Parkdean Resorts have revealed the UK's lightest and darkest beaches as inspiration for this year's staycation, and Devon has some of the UK's whitest beaches of all!

To help Brits beat the crowds and find their perfect beach getaway, Parkdean has expertly colour matched the sands of over 50 UK beaches to create an exclusive colour palette called ‘Sandtone’, inspired by the shades of summer staycations.

The Sandtone swatch book showcases a huge variety of the UK’s beaches, giving holidaymakers the chance to discover paradise-like sands such as Appletree Bay and hidden gems like Embo Beach. You can view all 54 beaches and their Sandtone swatches here.

Blackpool Sands is the UK's 14th Lightest Beach

The study shows that Blackpool Sands in Devon is the UK's 14th lightest beach in the UK with a 'Sandtone' shade of 720 C, a lovely classic warm beige. Blackpool Sands is a stony beach that's ideal for feeling like you're in paradise without getting out your passport. The Blue Flag Award-winning beach is one of the best family-friendly beaches in the country and is the perfect to start or finish a walk along the Devon coast.

Croyde Bay Sits Somewhere In Between

Croyde Bay sits somewhere in the middle of the study with a warm 'Sandtone' shade of 2311 C. Visitors can enjoy the sweeping sandy coastline and beautiful scenery, the perfect holiday destination for active surfers or explorers.

Challaborough Bay is the UK's 10th Darkest Beach

Challaborough Bay with its chocolate brown sands is one of the darker beaches in Devon with a 'Sandtone' shade of 4725 C. The beach is perfect for surfers and bodyboarders in its sheltered horseshoe cove. The fine sandy beach is also great for building sandcastles and being based in South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty there's lots to see.

Beer is the UK's 9th Darkest Beach

Sitting at the opposite end of the spectrum is Beer, one of the darkest beaches in the UK with a 'Sandtone' shade of 4270 C and consisting of pebbles rather than sand. Based on the Jurassic Coast the beach is in a picturesque location with beautiful cliffs on either side including Beer Head, offering up unmatched scenic views.

Whether you prefer the white soft sand of St Ives down in Cornwall or want to explore the darker sands of the East, Parkdean Resorts is here to help you decide, detailing the colour, type and texture of each beach. With everything visualised all in one place, you’ll be in the best position to start planning your ultimate staycation as you shed the confines of your home to explore the best of what the UK has to offer!

Catherine Lynn, Chief Customer Officer at Parkdean Resorts said: “The UK is craving a holiday after months of lockdown, which has seen many people all over the country stuck inside and missing out on essential time away. With the easing of the restrictions, there has been a great emphasis put on UK staycations, something some holidaymakers may not have considered in the past.

“While international travel is still under various restrictions, we want to encourage people to see all that the UK has to offer on our very own shores so we’ve created Sandtone as a love letter to UK’s beaches in the hopes that people will fall back in love with staycationing.

“This summer we’re looking forward to welcoming back holidaymakers to our resorts all over the country where they’ll be able to visit many of these wonderful beaches in a safe environment. We're implementing strict hygiene and social distancing measures to ensure all our customers and staff are safe.”
