Royal seal of approval for Devon Police Officer

Devon and Cornwall Police Sergeant Olly Tayler has been presented with the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Sgt Tayler was honoured with the award when he visited Buckingham Palace with his wife and two sons on Friday 9 October, 2015.  

Olly is currently based in the Serious Collisions unit in Plymouth and was recognised for his years of dedicated service in this year’s New Years Honours List.

Olly has served Devon and Cornwall Police for 23 years and was instrumental in developing ‘The Honest Truth’ - a national young driver road safety campaign.  The Honest Truth is now a successful road safety charity that is being used in many areas of the UK.

The Honest Truth was set up following a tragic collision that claimed three young lives in 2009 and since the campaigns inception has grown from strength to strength and is now reaches thousands of young people all over the UK and beyond.

The Honest Truth is a partnership between the Police, Fire and Local Authorities and works closely with approved driving instructors to deliver the most up-to-date information to vulnerable drivers on our roads and reduce fatalities.  The campaign is now being used by numerous partnerships across the country and is being looked at by national business and the military to raise awareness of road safety issues amongst their staff.
