If you’ve ever forgotten a loved one’s birthday, the chances are you don't live in Plymouth.

Research by Groupon UK has revealed that people based north of Birmingham are more likely to forget important birthdays and special occasions. The research shows that those based in the north east and Scotland were the most frequent offenders, with Glasgow top of the pile; while the further south you’re based, the more likely you are to remember those important dates, with Plymouth proving the most mindful...and Exeter lagging some way behind!

The study has revealed the nation’s most forgetful towns and cities, and the more mindful. The percentages per city of people likely to forget those important dates were as follows:

Glasgow  19%
Manchester 17 %
Edinburgh 16%
Birmingham  15%
Brighton 14 %
Exeter 13 %
Belfast 12 %
London 11 %
Norwich 10 %
Plymouth 8 %

The study of over 2,000 UK adults, discovered that while some of us are able to balance our social calendars, remembering all the key dates, a third of us admit to struggling to turn up on time - if at all - to important events and occasions. Groupon's research found that:

  • Social-strugglers 30% of us just aren’t able to cope, admitting we often turn up late, are known for dropping out at the last minute and even forget important occasions completely. This can be simply down to the fact that our massive work load means we just don’t have time to show up on time (or at all) – Cara Delevingne has been notably absent from NY Fashion Week as she is reported to be concentrating on her acting career and Justin Bieber and Rihanna are renowned drop outs, even neglecting to turn up to their own gigs.

  • Go-getters! Meanwhile 37% of us are successfully juggling our busy work and social lives, saying we take the lead on organising get-togethers and know all the best things to do around town – Victoria Beckham and Beyonce are both experts at balancing work, being a mum while still having amazing social lives.

Roy Blanga, Managing Director, Groupon UK says: “It can be difficult to remember birthdays and anniversaries; I know I’ve been guilty of forgetting a few myself! Luckily nowadays, with so many mobile apps and websites out there to help us find inspiration, there’s no reason not to rescue the situation and organise a get-together in the spur of the moment.

"We can easily search online for deals on theatre trips, comedy gigs, or even holidays – all the information is available at our fingertips.”
