Pedestrian killed in A38 collision

A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a Nissan van on the A38 near the Lee Mill Industrial Estate.

The 47-year-old man was from Smithaleigh in Devon. The collision occurred at about 10.30pm on Sunday 14 July 2013 on the eastbound carriageway.

A 57-year-old man from Bristol has been arrested by Avon and Somerset Police on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care

The deceased's next of kin have been informed. A forensic post-mortem is due on Wednesday (17 July) and formal identification will take place in due course.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The arrest follows police appeals earlier today (Monday 15 July) for witnesses to the incident.
