Police in Devonport and West Plymouth are running Operation Smart, a two-week initiative to tackle issues that are important to residents.

Local officers will be engaging with their communities and carrying out a number of activities between Monday 1 December and Friday 12 December.

On Wednesday 3 December PCSOs will be running a traffic operation to tackle residents’ concerns about parking and speeding in Beacon Park Road. They will be joined by officers from the Roads Policing Unit to carry out speed awareness stop checks throughout the area.

They will also be on patrol dealing with parking on pedestrian crossings and inconsiderate parking outside local schools.

On Monday 8 December the team will be joined by members of the Blue Badge Parking Enforcement Team from Plymouth City Council, to conduct spot checks on vehicles parked in the disabled bays.

Officers will be carrying out a School Speedwatch in Stoke to highlight the dangers of speeding especially around schools. They will be attending Stoke Damerel Primary School on Wednesday 10 December between 2pm and 3pm.

The North Prospect Team is holding The Great Beacon Bake Off on Wednesday 10 December. Members of the local community have been invited to bake Christmas cakes which will be judged and the winner will receive a prize.

PC Debbie Benwell, based in Beacon Park, said: “We want our communities to know we are listening to their concerns and tackling the issues that are most important to them.”
