Oddfellows Friendly Society Members Tour Black Friars Gin Distillery

Members of the Oddfellows Friendly Society recently enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Black Friars Gin Distillery, located in Plymouth’s historic Barbican.

Dating back to the early 1400s, the Black Friar’s building is one of Plymouth's oldest landmarks. Today, it serves as a hub of excellence for gin production and cocktail making.

The distillery has been producing gin on the site since 1793. During the tour, members explored the rich history of the distillery, learned about the distillation process, and discovered the unique botanicals that give Plymouth Gin its distinct flavour. The experience included a guided tasting of Plymouth Gin Original, Sloe Gin, and Fruit Cup.

The visit concluded with a relaxing time in the Distillery’s Refectory Bar, where guests enjoyed a refreshing glass of gin accompanied by delicious nibbles, making it a memorable and fun filled day.

Brenda, the local Oddfellows Branch Chair or ‘Noble Grand’ who had arranged the visit, said, “It was wonderful to see our members enjoying both the history and the unique experience of gin-making. The tour was both educational and fun and we couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable day!”
