A new cross-city link from Derriford Hospital to Langage will be launched on Monday 4 November as part of a review of Plymouth’s subsidised bus services.

The ‘Plymouth Connect’ – a new and improved Service 14 – will offer much greater coverage than it does currently, linking Derriford Hospital and Langage via Devonport, the city centre, Cattedown, Plymstock and Plympton.

Operated by Plymouth Citybus and running hourly from 5.30am to 11.30pm Monday to Saturday, it will significantly improve access to employment, healthcare, shopping and leisure facilities.

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The Plymouth Connect will make it much easier for people to travel between Devonport in the west of the city and Plympton and Plymstock in the east. It will also include Derriford Hospital in the north, as well as the city centre, providing a genuine cross-city link. We’re really pleased to be working with Plymouth Citybus to provide a great new service that should make a real difference to passengers.”

Money from the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund and developer contributions have helped to fund the improvements. The Plymouth Connect contract has been let on a ‘kick-start’ basis in the hope that all or part of the route will be taken on commercially when this funding expires.

As part of the review the Council will also be reinstating the links to Reddicliff Road and South Hill in Plymstock through the Service 7D, operated by Target Travel.
