The Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School in Crownhill has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ following its latest Ofsted inspection.

The rating is the fourth Outstanding grade to be achieved by the family-run nursery group this year, bringing the total number of top rated Mama Bear’s nurseries to 8, with a further 13 achieving Good grades.

The governing body awarded the Plymouth nursery setting, which is located on Crownhill Fort Road, with the highest possible rating for effectiveness of the leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development behaviour and welfare; and outcomes for children.

The inspector was particularly impressed with the setting’s highly reflective management style which involves staff, parents and the children themselves helping to evaluate and make improvements. Of note, is the nursery’s ‘Children’s Council’ scheme which allows children to air views about favourite activities and what they enjoy learning.

Emma Hurley, manager of the Fort View, Crownhill Mama Bear’s nursery, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded an Outstanding Ofsted grade following our inspection. All of the staff here do a fantastic job at constantly aiming to improve everything we do, so to receive this impressive assessment is really encouraging.

“The inspector made so many brilliant observations, which we’re proud of. She described the staff as caring and attentive and said they support children’s development exceptionally well. Our close partnership with our parents was also praised for strengthening
children’s learning at home and helping them to make excellent progress from their starting points.

“We were also pleased that our planning of activities and exciting learning experiences was highlighted as so much work goes in to creating fun and educational sessions for the children.

“For Mama Bear’s to achieve four Outstanding Ofsted grades in this year alone is a real achievement and shows the company-wide commitment we have to providing top-quality care and early education. We provide a home-from-home environment for our children and enjoy nothing more than watching them develop and take the next step up to Primary School.”

Fort View is set within one of the largest gardens in the Mama Bear’s portfolio meaning children benefit from exploring the extensive outdoor environment. Set in an oasis of peaceful countryside within the city, the nursery is well placed to serve families living or working nearby and can be found to the right of the historic Napoleonic fort at the top of Crownhill Fort Road.

Mama Bear’s Day Nurseries and Pre-Schools provide care for children from three months to five years. Open from 7.30am until 7pm all the nurseries offer a range of childcare funding options including the government Extended Entitlement scheme.
