Luppitt Neighbourhood Plan formally ‘made’, helping shape future developments

This announcement follows many years of dedicated hard work by Luppitt Parish Council and local community volunteers.

The Luppitt Neighbourhood Plan was supported by nearly 90 per cent of voters in November’s referendum, following independent examination and extensive engagement. East Devon District Council (EDDC) has formally adopted (‘made’) this plan, meaning that it will now carry its ‘full weight’ in the consideration of planning applications in the parish until 2031.

East Devon is one of the leading districts nationally for neighbourhood planning, with this latest addition, bringing the total number of neighbourhood plans to be adopted (made) to 25.

The document aims to achieve ‘a thriving, balanced community whilst protecting the unique character of the parish and its valuable rural landscape’, which is located in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The plan does not propose any sites for development, but it would lend support to a limited range of proposals that would sustain this local community and economy.

17 policy areas are covered in the plan, seeking to address and balance many competing demands. These issues include local employment opportunities, affordable homes for residents at different stages in life, sustainable tourism, farming, and preserving the natural and built environment. 

Councillor Dan Ledger, East Devon District Council portfolio holder for Strategic Planning said: “This is another fantastic submission of an East Devon community shaping the future of their area and reaching the made milestone. I would like to congratulate all the volunteers who have made this possible.”
