Lord Mayor Designate Councillor Michael Fox has announced that Councillor Pauline Murphy will serve as his deputy next year.

Councillor Murphy was born in Plymouth in 1959 and has represented the Efford and Lipson ward since 2010. She will be supported in her role by fellow ward councillor and partner of 14 years Councillor Brian Vincent.

Councillor Murphy has worked for DML, Plymouth Citybus and South West Public Transport Information and is currently chair of the Council’s Working Plymouth scrutiny panel. She is also Chair of the Armed Forces Community Covenant Group and sits on the Co-operative Scrutiny Review Board and Audit Committee.

A fan of all sports and especially football, she has completed six London marathons to raise funds for youth football clubs. She is also a member of the Devon Wildlife Trust.

Councillor Murphy has two children from a previous marriage and Councillor Vincent has five and they enjoy spending time with their many grandchildren.

Councillor Murphy said: “I would like to thank the Lord Mayor Designate for asking me to be his deputy for the forthcoming year. It is a privilege and an honour for me and for my partner Brian, who will be my consort.

“I know Michael will be an excellent ambassador for the city of Plymouth, along with his wife Rose as Lady Mayoress and will give 100 per cent in his role. He has always worked hard to represent the constituents within his ward and has a great passion for the city. It will be a fantastic experience for us all and I’m looking forward to supporting him in his year of office.”

Councillor Fox said: “Pauline is Plymouth born and bred and has worked tirelessly for the city as a councillor. She was an excellent Lady Mayoress when her partner Brian was Lord Mayor and I am confident she will be an excellent Deputy Lord Mayor in her own right.”

Councillors Murphy and Vincent will take up their roles in May.
