Plymouth City Council has announced ten more vacancies for the autumn under its award winning apprenticehip scheme.

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) gave the council the award after they doubled the number of apprenticeship opportunities and encouraged other businesses and community groups to follow suit.

The Council now claims it is "getting bigger and better" as it offers ten brand new NVQ4 apprenticeships in project management.

Working with the transformation team, the individuals will be involved in helping reshape the Council services, gaining valuable experience whilst earning money and obtaining a recognised qualification.

Good organisational skills, the ability to effectively communicate and multi-task will put applicants in good stead to manage projects from the planning stages right through to evaluation, says the Council.

Deputy Leader of the Council Pete Smith said: “In the past year we have recruited almost 90 apprentices and each and every one of them has shown great enthusiasm and has worked really hard, bridging any skills gaps we may have across the Council.

“Working with NAS to provide a higher level of qualification will help provide opportunities to those individuals that are educated to A Level standard and may be struggling to find work. It’s not every day people can help council’s transform – what an excellent opportunity!”

Apprentices at the Council have already shown their project management skills when a team of nine got to the finals of the national Brathay Challenge after developing, organising, promoting and delivering a project to revamp a section of the Place de Brest community garden.
