A new 'work club' offering support and advice for job seekers is being launched at West Park Library on Wednesday 11 September.

The West Park Work Club will give job hunters advice on writing a CV, setting up email and universal job match accounts, filling in application forms, setting up businesses and job searching, as well as help develop their basic IT skills and interview techniques.

It is the third work club to be launched by Plymouth City Council’s library service, with two successful clubs already up and running at Crownhill and St Aubyn Libraries. It is being run in partnership with Working Links.

Deputy Council Leader and local ward councillor Peter Smith has offered a £500 community grant to buy equipment for the work club. He said: “Clubs like this offer really valuable support for people who are trying to find work. They improve job seekers’ confidence and skills, give them useful job searching tips and help them prepare for those all-important interviews.”

Chris Hunnings from Plymouth City Council’s library service said: “We are committed to supporting our local communities, whether that is through health information, encouraging families to read together or helping job seekers improve their skills and find work. This club has been set up in direct response to calls from customers wanting more assistance in looking for work. With friendly staff, great resources and free use of our library computers, we are confident it will prove its worth.”

The club will launch at 10am on Wednesday 11 September and meet every Wednesday from 10am to midday.
