Greenhill Care Home in Newton Abbot Celebrates Opening of Six New Luxury Rooms

Greenhill Care Home in Newton Abbot recently celebrated the inauguration of six new luxury rooms, officially opened by the Mayor of Kingsteignton, the Mayor of Newton Abbot and the MP for Newton Abbot.

The special event brought together residents, relatives, members of the Greenhill Care Home team and local community representatives for an afternoon of celebration, activities and refreshments. Guests were invited to view the newly completed rooms and celebrate the development with the care team and residents.

The inauguration included a selection of activities for residents and guests, along with plenty of refreshments. The relaxed event gave everyone the opportunity to spend time together, explore the new luxury rooms and enjoy conversations over food and drinks.

The Mayors and MP commented that the rooms were beautiful and had a very welcoming feel.” A resident’s room is more than a place to sleep – it’s their home, and its quality has a direct bearing on comfort, dignity and independence. The focus given to creating these rooms reflects a broader shift in the care sector toward recognising that surroundings affect wellbeing: residents who feel settled in their space tend to engage more with activities and feel more able to receive family and friends. The new suites were designed with that principle in mind.

The six new luxury rooms have been named the Braben Suites, in memory of a much-loved long-term resident who was very involved in daily life at the home. The choice was a deliberate one: rather than a generic name, Greenhill wanted the suites to carry forward the memory of someone who had genuinely shaped the character of the place she lived in.

Relatives of the resident attended the inauguration and were moved to see their loved one remembered this way. For a home to name a permanent feature after a resident is, in itself, a statement about how those years of daily life are regarded - not simply as a chapter that closes, but as something that leaves a lasting mark on the place and the people in it.

Those who knew the resident recalled how she would keep the manager informed about everything that took place at the home. Her lively character and mischievous sense of humour made her a memorable part of daily life at Greenhill Care Home, and the stories shared during the event reflected the affection in which she was held.
