Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is appealing for ‘fur-ever’ homes for a trio of overlooked pooches who have a combined human equivalent age of 175.

Eight-year-old Crossbreed, Zane, nine-year-old Labrador cross, Saxo, and eight-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Lara, are eagerly awaiting a home to call their own. But staff at the rehoming centre believe that potential adopters haven’t been able to look past the dogs’ ages, despite still being young at heart with plenty of life in them.

In stark contrast to the average stay of 39 days for Dogs Trust residents, the elderly canines have spent a combined total of almost 300 days in kennels at the rehoming centre. The team are out to prove that age is just a number and every dog really does have its day.

Rogan Quinn, Dogs Trust Ilfracombe Rehoming Centre Assistant Manager, said: “As much as we love the company of these lovable elderly residents, we would love to see Zane, Saxo and Lara find a retirement home of their dreams so they can really put their paws up.

“It's sad when older dogs come to us and get overlooked, especially when they have such wonderful personalities with a lot of love to give. There really is a dog to suit every family. Dogs Trust never puts a healthy dog to sleep so we will care for them for as long as it takes to find their perfect home. There are so many advantages of having an older dog and we’re really hoping that Zane, Saxo and Lara each find a home of their own to spend their twilight years”

All of the centres ‘golden oldies’ have different personalities and are looking for different home environments. But the one thing they do have in common is that they all have their paws crossed that they will find their special someone soon.
