Do you love your local library? Then spread the word – it could earn you a Nexus 7 tablet or a £50 Amazon voucher!

Plymouth City Council is marking National Libraries Day (Saturday 8 February) with a special prize draw for existing members who get their friends to join.

Just take a friend along to any Plymouth library between 1 and 15 February, get them to sign up for a card and you’ll both be entered into the draw.

National Libraries Day is an annual celebration of the people and communities who love and use their libraries and the theme of this year’s event is ‘Use it, love it, join it’.

Whether you visit the library regularly or you’ve never been, this is a great time to go along and find out more about the wide range of services on offer. From children’s reading clubs to help using the internet, from health information to advice on starting a business or finding a job, there’s something for everyone.

Even if you can’t get to your library, you can still access a number of services online.

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “Libraries offer much more than books – they can help you access online resources, improve your creative writing and even trace your family tree. They also provide advice on a massive range of topics from travel to trademarks and host dozens of activities and events each year from ‘frock swaps’ to business support days. National Libraries Day showcases all of these services and gives people a chance to chat to staff.”
