Late night shoppers can enjoy free parking in three of Plymouth’s West End car parks in the run-up to Christmas.

To get folk into the festive spirit, Plymouth City Council is waiving charges on a Thursday night – the traditional late night shopping night – in the following car parks:

  • Western Approach (1,094 spaces)
  • Woolworth East (45 spaces)
  • Plymouth City Market (36 spaces)

The Christmas package also includes a free 15-minute ‘park and pop in’ deal on pay and display bays in the West End. The Council recently created space for seven extra bays around the City Market by moving street furniture.

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “Thursdays are a big night for retailers in the run-up to Christmas and by providing free parking nearby we hope to encourage shoppers into some of our smaller, independent shops.”

Plymouth’s annual Winter Festival includes the Christmas ice rink and Santa’s Grotto on the piazza, festive shows at Plymouth Pavilions, the Christmas Market in Armada Way, the West End Circus on Friday 30 November and ‘Christmas Crackers’ offers to celebrate independent shops.

The late night Christmas parking deal includes Thursday 26 December (Boxing Day), when most shops will be open until 8pm.
