East Devon full fibre ultrafast broadband rollout confirmed

Jurassic Fibre, a local full fibre ultrafast broadband provider, has announced its commercial launch following a successful test phase near Exeter, with speeds of up to 1Gbps being offered.

Jurassic Fibre is now rolling out its services across East Devon.

In the coming weeks, communities to receive the full fibre ultrafast broadband offering include Aylesbeare, Bishop’s Court, Blackhorse, Clyst Honiton, Clyst St George, Clyst St Mary including Cat and Fiddle, Ebford, Exton, Farringdon, Lympstone, Oil Mill Lane, Perkins Village, Sowton Village, Woodbury and Woodbury Salterton. 

For businesses coverage includes Exeter Airport Industrial Estate, Hill Barton Business Park, Greendale Business Park and Sowton Industrial Estate. 

By early summer, the network will have reached Exmouth, the first large town set to have access to the new network.

“I’m proud to announce that we will be bringing full fibre ultrafast broadband with speeds of up to 1Gbps to thousands more people in local communities in the South West,” said Michael Maltby, CEO of the Exeter based company, who lives in Sidmouth.

“We’ve completed the test phase to the east of Exeter, which was a great success, and our first customers have started to benefit from ultrafast fibre direct to their door.”                                                                                                                                          

Aylesbeare has been added to the roll out specifically in response to local demand, with strong support from residents and the parish council, after a packed community event in the village in January. It’s an example of Jurassic Fibre’s flexible approach, working with communities to develop local broadband solutions.

Michael Maltby said: “We’re keen to work with communities to future proof them for the 21st century. The demand for an improved service that’s reliable and fast, backed with good local customer service, is undoubtedly there. We’ve had great support from the community and the local parish council and are thrilled that so many people have pre-registered for the service.”

In celebration of the company’s successful first year and to mark the roll out of full fibre ultrafast broadband towards Exmouth, 62 of the Jurassic Fibre team gathered on the town’s Shelly Beach to undertake an unusual challenge. With the help of a local aerial photographer, the team recreated the brand’s fossil-shaped logo; a spectacular final image with the breathtaking estuary backdrop.

Exmouth Councilor Pauline Stott said: “We desperately need better broadband in Exmouth and so it is very positive that Jurassic Fibre is bringing their network to the town.  I am really pleased that we are finally getting better connected in this part of the world, as this area has previously been overlooked. I am certain that it will help businesses and residents enormously.”

Ian MacQueen, chairman of Exmouth Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Chamber very much welcomes the significance and opportunities for businesses and households that the arrival of ultrafast broadband will generate. This will provide a more reliable, resilient and faster connectivity to the Internet.

“The potential benefits for the local economy are considerable and will make the town a more viable choice for businesses to open and relocate; better for residents and visitors to the area who all have expectations of decent broadband when on holiday.

“The timing of this initiative is fortuitous with the new developments, in particular the Seafront Queen’s Drive development and the arrival of new businesses within Exmouth.

“All the more relevant is the fact that Jurassic Fibre is a local business with a local call centre – ‘keeping it local’. This will help Exmouth to continue its mission to become one of the best holiday destinations within the South West as well as a great place to run a business and compliments the already excellent road and rail links from the town to the rest of the UK.”

Funded by Fern Trading, as advised by Octopus Investments, Jurassic Fibre signed a significant supplier partnership with global lT leader, Tata Consulting Services, last autumn and recently announced a landmark reseller deal with swcomms, to provide businesses in the region with ultrafast fibre broadband.

Five-star luxury hotel Lympstone Manor was recently revealed as one of the first business customers to sign up, with its patron, celebrity chef Michael Caines MBE, joining Jurassic Fibre and swcomms at the Sandy Park business launch earlier this month.
