East Devon businesses: Have your say on the future of the local economy

Local organisations are being urged to share their views on an Economic Development Strategy for East Devon.

East Devon firms and groups are invited to comment on the draft Economic Development Strategy by answering a short online survey from Monday 19th February until midnight Sunday 10th March 2024 at eastdevon.gov.uk/eds

Following a Local Economic Review including newly published Census data, Office for National Statistics datasets and a series of stakeholder consultations with business representatives, it is evident that the local economy has unique challenges, for example:

East Devon has the fourth highest proportion of retirees in England
Housing for younger working age residents is a key constraint
Demand for industrial and logistics workspace is higher than available supply
The high levels of out-commuting indicate the need to provide more jobs close to where people live
Carbon emissions are not falling fast enough if we want to reach Net Zero by 2040.

Taking these challenges and wider feedback into account, a draft Economic Development Strategy has been produced.

“I urge all East Devon organisations to comment on the Economic Development Strategy so that it reflects the variety of your needs. Your input is crucial to help us fulfil a shared vision for a resilient economy, ensuring East Devon is an attractive place to live, work, learn, invest and visit.”
