Big congratulations to Professor Greg Dix, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust's Director of Nursing, who has won Inspirational Leader of the Year at the NHS South West Leadership Recognition Awards 2015.

The awards celebrate the work of leaders across the South West. The Inspirational Leader category focuses on people who ‘place quality at the heart of everything they do; they are innovative and value their partners while actively mentoring the next generation of NHS leaders; they are tireless in changing the system for the benefit of all’.

Greg was joint winner with Joanne Beer, Interim Director of Operations, Nursing and Allied Health professionals, Peninsula Community Health and now goes through to the National NHS Leadership Recognition Awards 2016.

He said: “I am delighted to win this award. It’s a reflection of the hard work that every member of staff carries out every day at our hospital. I am proud to be able to lead such committed individuals.”

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust Chief Executive Ann James also attended the awards. She said: “Greg’s award is very well deserved and underlines what an inspirational and valued Director of Nursing he is. In my opinion, everyone from our Trust who was on the shortlist was a winner and I hope they all enjoyed the evening.”

Greg leads a team of more than 2,000 nursing and care staff and leads or supports many successful initiatives including Making Mealtimes Matter and our ongoing pressure ulcer work. He also played a key role in Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust receiving Outstanding for Caring in this year’s CQC report.

Our Trust nomination for Greg said: “He inspires staff and influences the board to transform working ways and significantly improve patient care. He leads by example – frequently working on the wards, encouraging nurses to approach him with suggestions and using this experience to drive change that supports top quality, front line care.

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust had five names – individuals and a team - on the shortlist for four categories of the awards, which took place on November 13 in the Passenger Shed in Brunel’s Old Station, Bristol.
