DFS Plymouth delivered more than just your regular sofa order to the Hallam family household on Wednesday when they also dropped off a £250 donation to much-loved local charity ‘Hugs for Henry’.

After DFS colleagues realised their delivery was going to the Hallam family home they decided to surprise their son Henry with a generous donation of £250 to help support his treatment after being diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.

Henry was born a lively and vigorous baby in 2009 but his health took a dramatic turn for the worse when he was first diagnosed with Neuroblastoma on 24 September 2012, at just three years old.

The Hallam family decided to take matters into their own hands and have since started a fundraising campaign, ‘Hugs for Henry’, to help Henry get further treatment outside of the UK. Together they have raised a massive £200,000, towards their £500,000 target.

Rowland Bassett, store manager, at DFS Plymouth, said: “Hugs for Henry is a very popular and well-known charity in this area. The family is an inspiration to all of us and we are honoured to be able to help them get that little bit closer to their fundraising target.

“We want to do our bit in the local community and help people where possible. We hope everyone else gets behind this great cause and donates!”

Elsbeth Hallam, Henry’s mum, commented: “We are extremely grateful and overwhelmed by the surprise donation and help from DFS. Having the local community support us is what keeps us going - it was such a lovely treat to add to our brand new sofa too!
