Kitsons Solicitors has shown its ongoing commitment to making a difference to vulnerable local people by awarding Shout It Out Learning Project just under £1,000.

The community project helps to ‎develop life skills‬ for people in ‎Plymouth‬ who struggle to read and write. The grant will support adult literacy sessions, giving them confidence in their abilities and helping to raise aspirations.

Kitsons, which has offices in Plymouth, Torquay and Exeter, set up a Fund with local charity Devon Community Foundation a number of years ago to enable the firm to support community projects across Devon, forever. Staff at Kitsons help to decide which local causes to support and continue to fundraise to add to the Fund which now stands at £50,000.

James Cross, Managing Partner of Kitsons said, “The Foundation does an amazing job, using its own resources to promote groups in Devon. As a local legal firm we are deeply embedded in our communities and we are entirely dedicated to making a real difference for the people in them, which is why we created the fund.”

Carina, who has being attending the club said, "I have been coming to this group for a few months. I find the group very friendly, always a good help. I have learnt a lot. I am definitely better at reading and my confidence is a lot better since I've been coming to the Shout It Out Project."

Martha Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Devon Community Foundation said, “Being able to support local groups like Shout it Out Learning Project is absolutely essential to our neighbourhoods and is exactly why the Foundation exists. Each and every group we invest in goes above and beyond to help people in need and makes a huge difference to those living in our local communities.”

Devon Community Foundation’s Summer Grant Round opens on the 29th June, so community projects in need of a cash boost should complete an expression of interest to find out whether they are eligible for funding.
