A grandfather-of-five is walking on air after winning a £32,000 Mercedes with £20,000 stashed in its boot - which he will now use to take his wife on her first-ever trip to Germany - thanks to online competitions company BOTB.

Bill Sutton was a keen runner, but after breaking his back 20 years ago his passion is now long-distance walking; both abroad and in the UK.

After discovering his whopping win - a brand new £32,000 Mercedes A250 AMG Line - the 76-year-old from South Devon is planning to use the top motor to take his wife on her first-ever trip to Germany to see the sights he took in on a solo walking trip last year.

Winning this contest was a ‘walk in the park’ for Bill, who won the amazing prize bundle worth £52,000 after paying just 90p to enter the contest.

BOTB presenter Christian Williams surprised Bill and his wife Sally with the stunning prizes at their home in Newton Abbot - with Sally exclaiming she ‘never dreamt’ this could happen.

The retired Marks and Spencer Operations Manager currently drives a Smart Fortwo - so the 221bhp Mercedes will be quite an upgrade.

Bill said that he’d yet to come up with any plans on how to spend the cash - but added that it would no doubt come in handy for their trip to the continent.

“I went on a 200-mile walk in the Rhine Valley in Germany last year on my own, so now I want to go back with my wife to show her all the spots I found,” said Bill.

“She’s never been to Germany before.

“I do a lot of long-distance walking all over the country, as well as in Germany, France and Turkey.

“I used to do a lot of running, but after I broke my back 20 years ago I’m not allowed to run, so I like to go on a lot of walks instead.

“My wife was so surprised when Christian told us we’d won. She was very taken aback. I’ve only played BOTB for a very short while; just a month.”
BOTB hands over the keys to two stunning cars each week as well as a lifestyle prize. The company, listed on the stock market, was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away more than £44m-worth of prizes so far.

Christian, who surprises the BOTB winners each week, said: “Huge congratulations to Bill and Sally - Bill played for a fantastic prize and I was absolutely delighted to surprise them. What a wonderful win.”
