Cyclist killed in road collision near Lifton

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the old A30 near Lifton in Devon.

The incident occurred at around 4.11pm on Wednesday 14 August on the old A30 at Sprytown Cross near Lifton.

A Citroen Saxo and a Giant Revel bicycle were involved in the collision.

The pedal cyclist was emerging from the Give Way line on the northern arm of the crossroads from the direction of Broadwoodwidger with the apparent intention of turning right towards Lifton, and the Citroen Saxo, was heading in a south westerly direction on the main road from Lewdown towards Lifton.

The rider of the bicycle, a local man in his forties sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Citroen Saxo was treated by Ambulance personnel at the scene and then released.

A specialist forensic investigation of the scene was carried out and the road was closed for 8 hours whilst this took place.

Police from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to this incident and anyone with information are asked  to contact them on 101 quoting police reference number 0545 140813.
