A Devon based organisation has launched a Crowdfunder to raise £60,000 to build a skate bowl in South Devon.

Opening in spring 2022, the Outside will be home to a community hub and cafe, with a pottery studio, a surfboard building workshop space, a children’s play area, and a small scale growing space. With the £60,000 raised through their Crowdfunder, they will build a concrete skate bowl, which will not only provide a space for sport but a place to improve physical and mental wellbeing and social interaction.

Designed by Betong Park and built by a team at Opus Skateparks, the bowl will cater to all experience levels, with nothing like it within a twenty mile radius of its home in South Devon.

The Outside team, which includes local hero and musician Ben Howard, were recently granted planning permission under ‘exceptional status’ after an outpouring of support from the community.

Paddy Wellens, the Outside’s Director, said: “We'd love to be able to offer a skate bowl on the Outside site and provide a space for sport, wellbeing and social interaction. Facilities of this quality are not available in our local area and they are crucial to physical and mental wellbeing. It will mean our local kids and adults can access the kind of opportunities normally only available in urban areas and we can encourage and boost our local skate scene!”

Rewards on the Crowdfunder include a one year membership to the bowl, a personalised ceramic tile with your name on it, and the sponsorship of a native tree in the area!

To help build this unique skate bowl and improve both the physical and mental wellbeing of Devon residents, they need the help of the crowd. To find out more about this project and support their mission, please click here or visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-outside-skate-bowl-devon
