Nationwide research of British animal owners has revealed the extent to which desperate owners resort to feeding fussy pets HUMAN food, with over a quarter of Plymothians (27 percent) having fed their pet chips, while nearly 1 in 10 (9 percent) have fed them roast spuds.

Nearly one in twenty folk in Plymouth (5 percent) have fed their furry friend birthday cake, while the same amount of fussy felines and hounds in the area have happily gobbled up a slice of toast and marmalade.

Nearly a fifth (18 percent) have fed their cat or dog ice cream, while as many as 23 percent of the Plymouth’s pets regularly sit down to a full roast dinner with all the trimmings.

Alarmingly, one in twenty pet owners in Plymouth make their pet a cooked breakfast every single morning, according to the research.

Spaghetti bolognese (23 percent), crisps (9 percent), sausages (41 percent), steak (27 percent) and mash (14 percent) are also among the human foods we Janners regularly feed our furry friends, according to the data.

The study, by pet food brand Webbox Naturals, found as many as 77 percent of British pet owners say they have a picky pooch or a fussy feline.

In Plymouth alone, as many as 14 percent agree that their pet is pickier than their kids when it comes to what is served up at mealtimes, with 36 percent saying they worry that their pet isn’t eating enough.

Yet over a third (36 percent) of Plymouth’s pet owners claim they always like to serve their furry friend the very best food that money can buy, while just 14 percent claim to spend more cash on pet food than on grub for themselves and their family.

Webbox Naturals pet recipe consultant Camille Ashforth said: “It’s great to see from the research just how dedicated the nation’s pet owners are in terms of feeding their pets quality food.”

TV Vet Paul Manktelow commented: “While feeding a small amount of appropriate human foods to pets can be OK, it’s important to remember what they can have and what they should never be given.

“There is really no substitute for a proper diet based on nutritional species appropriate food which has all the right vitamins and minerals for your pet.”

Camille continued: “We are confident even the fussiest of pets will enjoy our yummy range which has been carefully developed using high quality ingredients which are also kind to sensitive tummies.

“We’ve included a number of new humanised recipes which performed very well during extensive, independent taste testing - such as Lamb and Chicken with Sweet Potato, Peas and Mint.”

The study found that 14 percent of correspondents in Plymouth have done a late night supermarket run to buy food they know their pet will eat, and almost 1 in 10 (9 percent) have pretended to eat pet food to make the dish seem more appealing to their furry friend.

The study also found that 41 percent of Plymouth’s pet owners regularly let their animals eat food from their own plate, with almost a third (27 percent) often letting their pets lick their plates clean.

Plymouth has ultimately been revealed as one of the most compassionate regions when it comes to worrying about their furry friend not eating enough. 36 percent of locals say they can’t bear the thought of their pet going hungry, compared to the national average of just 26 percent.
