On the 14th and 15th March, the British Army is bringing interactive kit to the Skills Show South West in Plymouth, the largest careers, jobs, skills and apprenticeship event in the South West. The British Army is the UK’s largest employer provider of apprenticeships and will be talking about the wide variety of paid opportunities in the British Army for those seeking a challenge, adventure or training.

Visitors can experience a parachute jump through virtual reality headsets and test their problem-solving skills and hand-eye co-ordination with the Batak machine.

Interactive equipment from the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers will be on display and local soldiers including an Army chef will be present to talk about their experiences in the Army.

Jim Thisby, Plymouth Recruitment Operations Manager, said: “The Army provides people with a chance to belong to one of the most respected organisations in the world while enjoying the opportunities and challenges that the diverse range of roles can offer, be that through a career in the Army Reserves or Regular Army.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to meet soldiers and ask any questions they have about Army life, and about the varied roles the soldiers carry out.”

Craftsman Welton, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, said: “I would recommend a career in the Army to anyone who is looking to gain valuable and transferrable life skills and trades. I have gained lots of new experiences, met lifelong friends and the Army Apprenticeship Programme offers you the ability to gain a wide range of qualifications for your Army career and are recognised in civilian life”

The British Army supports people in achieving their personal and professional goals, whether it’s conquering a pull up or taking on a leadership role. The Army is recruiting and there is a breadth of roles and opportunities available in both the Regular Army and Army Reserve, from helicopter pilot to nurse, from engineer to IT specialist. You can go sky diving or skiing abroad as part of adventure training and gain further qualifications such as an apprenticeship or a degree. As part of life in the British Army, lifelong friendship bonds are formed and incredible challenges are overcome to achieve worthwhile results, for example saving lives by providing assistance on humanitarian or peacekeeping missions at home or abroad.
