Batten down the hatches; it's a windy, rainy Monday

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain today. Heavy rain is likely to affect Plymouth and parts of South West England this morning accompanied by strong southerly winds.

The public are being warned that there may be a risk of localised surface water flooding, more especially in urban areas and affecting roads around the rush hour.

The heavy rain may ease around the middle of this morning, but more heavy rain is likely later today for which a further warning may be required. Therefore the public are advised to monitor the Met Office website for updates.

An active frontal system will move northwards across south west England and Wales this morning. It is likely to bring 15-25mm of rain fairly widely, falling in some six hours, with a risk of over 40mm on higher ground.

Overnight it is forecast that the rain will clear slowly eastwards, leaving a mixture of brighter spells and scattered showers. These will be heavy at times during the afternoon, especially in the west. Remaining windy and mild.
