Appeal after car plunges into Hooe Lake

Two people have been freed from a submerged car at Hooe Lake in Turnchapel, Plymouth, today [25 August].

Police and emergency services were called at 1.55pm after reports that the vehicle had left the road and entered the lake.

The vehicle ended up on its roof and became submerged in the water.

Police officers and members of the public entered the water in an effort to rescue the occupants.

One man was freed from the vehicle. Police officers administered CPR on the man before ambulance crews arrived at the scene. He has been taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where his condition is currently unknown.

A woman was also recovered from the vehicle by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. There are no further details on her condition at this time.

Police, ambulance, the air ambulance, HM Coastguard and Lifeboat and MoD Police, are in attendance.

Barton Road has been closed by police.
