Support organisations in the city will be touring in a blue bus and parking up to help communities with help, advice and support.

Plymouth City Council and the Community Safety Partnership have joined forces to ensure residents can easily access information about money, safety and how to get cheaper bills.

The tour starts on the 20 January at the Central Library where Plymouth City Council’s benefit advisors will be joined by representatives Advice Plymouth, Age UK Plymouth, Social Inclusion, Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Prevention.

Residents will be able to drop-in to the library between 11am and 2pm and talk to the experts over a cup of tea about a range of topics including; money and benefit matters, reducing crime and keeping safe

Cabinet Member for Co-operatives and Community Development said: “There are still many families in Plymouth that are struggling and are not seeking the support they are entitled to. Many low income families may not even be aware of what is available and therefore we will be making this more visible and accessible for them. I hope to get out on the bus as much as possible – so come and say hi!”

Following the launch the advisers will tour the city in the bus stopping at 11 locations over eight weeks.

Residents will be able to come aboard anytime between 11am and 2pm where they will be able to talk to access a range of information and advice. Refreshments will be available and throughout the tour there will be the odd give-away including blankets, hot water bottles, attack alarms and torches.

Crime Prevention Officer Sarah German said: “The project hopes that through engagement and a variety of information, those who attend the event will come away with a raised awareness of how to cope with the dark winter months and how they can enrich their own lives and the lives of others by giving back to the community”

Spot the blue bus at Whitleigh, Barne Barton, Plymstock, North Prospect, Keyham and Plympton, Frankfort Gate, the Plymouth Life Centre and Tor Bridge High at Estover. In addition, advisers will be visiting St. Aubyn and St. Budeaux Libraries.
