With entries for Devon’s foremost green awards arriving daily, the call is out for even more ethical businesses and educational initiatives to get their own submissions underway.

The DEBI Awards are free to enter and open to any organisation, big or small, in the Devon region. Previous winners, chosen for their commitment towards environmental aims, include Ode True Food, Chunky Monkey, Naturalmat, Carbon Compost, the Arundell Arms, Fungi Futures and the Una Group.

The five categories are: Green Goods and Services, Sustainable Food, Retail, Hospitality & Leisure, Sustainable Ethos, Environmental Champion, and a new category for 2014, Environmental Education for those who promote or contribute to environmental education across Devon. Organisations can enter as many categories as they wish.

DEBI Chair, Andy Vickery said: “Many and varied businesses from across the county take part in the awards each year, achieving recognition for themselves and helping to confirm Devon’s reputation as a green innovator.

“We’re keen to encourage those who have never entered for an award before to give it a go this year. Winning entries are judged not on size or turnover, but on the passion behind introducing environmental initiatives into a business.”

Deadline for entries is September 26. All shortlisted entries receive a visit prior to the winners being chosen and will be invited to the free awards ceremony held at the Met Office in November, when the category winners and Overall Winner are announced.
