Apple and oat crumble is a delicious and healthy recipe for breakfast or served as a dessert.

This recipe is specifically made with jumbo oats. Jumbo oats are made from oat groats. They have an overall good texture and are slightly thicker and are more processed, which is why they are more fibrous and chewy. You can enjoy this recipe with quality ingredients from Whole Food Earth.

Ingredients

Jumbo oats (1 cup)

Apples (5 to 6)

Brown sugar (1 cup)

Plain white flour (2 teaspoons)

Lemon juice (2 tablespoons)

Ground cinnamon (1 teaspoon)

Sea salt (1/4 teaspoon)

Cold and cubed butter (100 grams)

Vanilla extract (1 tablespoon)

Chopped walnuts (1/2 cup)

Directions

1. In the beginning, preheat the oven to 190°C, so that it will take less time for the cooking process.

2. Now thoroughly wash the apples and peel off their skin. Now dice them into fine cubes and transfer them to a bowl.

3. Next, add half cup brown sugar, plain white flour, lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon to the bowl. Mix all the mixture until all the apple cubes are fully coated with the ingredients. You can also use water instead of lemon juice.

4. Take a medium-sized baking dish and pour the mixture into it. Peel and core the apples, slice them finely, and place them in a medium bowl. Gently press the mixture to the bottom of the dish to avoid any gaps.

5. Take another medium-sized bowl and add jumbo oats, plain white flour, remaining brown sugar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, chopped walnuts, and sea salt. Mix it until fully combined.

6. Now add the butter to the jumbo oat mixture. Mix it with your hands and fingers so that all the butter is mixed or melted into the oat mixture.

7. Mix it well so that no lump or large piece remains in the bowl. Now sprinkle this mixture over the top of the apple mixture. Also, sprinkle some walnuts on top. Make sure the apple cubes are fully topped with the mixture.

8. Bake it in the oven for half an hour until the topping becomes golden brown and crispy and the apple cubes are tender. You can also see the sizzling bubbles on top of it, which indicate that they are fully baked.

9. Cool it down before serving. Serve it with ice cream, custard, or cream and enjoy.

It also modulates immune function and improves gut health, along with diet quality.

Variations

In this classic recipe, you can add or avoid the ingredients as per your taste and choice. Instead of apples, you can also use other fruits such as plums, peaches, or berries. This recipe can also be made by using simple sugar or caster sugar, but brown sugar gives it a bit of a toasty taste.

Choosing good apples

There are a lot of different varieties of apples for use in cooking, but specifically for this recipe, you should use apples that have a good texture and become tender when baked. For that purpose, Honeycrisp, Gala, Pink Lady, and Granny Smith apples are good choices.

Avoid overmixing the ingredients

Do not overmix the ingredients while making the topping oat mixture. As overmixing can cause a smooth texture. So make sure that the crunchy and crumbly texture is maintained.
