Last year's Tour of Britain has been shortlisted as a finalist at the prestigious Sport Industry Awards.

The 17th edition of the modern Tour is nominated in the Event of the Year category of the awards.

It’s up against Wimbledon – The Championships 2021, the EFL Sky Bet Play Off Finals, The Hundred, and the BLAST Premier Fall Final.

Devon hosted Stage Two of the 2021 Tour, attracting the biggest crowds of the race with around 200,000 spectators turning out along the 115-mile route from Sherford to Exeter.

The eight-day race, which ran from Cornwall to Aberdeen, featured some of cycling’s biggest names including World Champion Julian Alaphilippe and British legend Mark Cavendish, and it was won overall by Belgian star Wout van Aert.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for cycling, said: "It’s fantastic news for The Tour to be shortlisted alongside other major sporting events and I'm proud that Devon played its part in such a spectacular edition of the race. We were treated to an exciting day’s racing which showed Devon at its best. The incredible support made it an unforgettable occasion and cycling fans were kept entertained throughout the entire eight days of the Tour.”

Winners of the Sport Industry Awards will be announced at an event in London on Thursday 12 May.

The 2021 Tour of Britain is also shortlisted in the Sporting Event of the Year category at the Event Production Awards which will be held next week.
