The popular Plymouth Seafood Festival will return to the Barbican and Sutton Harbour at the end of the month, but this year with a Plymouth Gin twist!

Located on Southside Street in the heart of the Historic Barbican, the local gin brand joins Brittany Ferries as this year’s sponsors of the event which is organised by the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Business Improvement District and Plymouth City Council.

Taking place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September there will be so much for people to do and enjoy. The Parade and Quay Square will be packed with an array of food and drink stalls showcasing Plymouth’s very own locally caught seafood.

Adults to the festival can join Plymouth Gin on a Voyage of Discovery, a new feature introduced by the brand for the event. Drop anchor at stands 16 and 17 (located on The Parade) and pick up your Plymouth Gin passport.

The passport will act as your guide as you go on a journey to discover the fascinating heritage of Plymouth Gin. The information in the passport will help you on your journey to collect stamps that will earn you and a friend a complimentary tour of the Black Friars distillery.

JC Iglesias, Plymouth Gin Global Brand Director said: "Plymouth Gin is proud of its maritime heritage and intrinsic links to the history of Plymouth. It is with great pleasure that we sponsor the city's Seafood Festival not only to reinforce our commitment to the community but also to underline that although we are a part of Plymouth's history we are also a part of its present and future."

The Cookery Theatre, sponsored by The Plymouth Kitchen Company, will once again be at the heart of the festival providing a fun-filled programme of demonstrations. Head to The Barbican Parade where you will see local and celebrity chefs showcase the fantastic quality seafood that is available in Plymouth, making mouth-watering dishes using seafood fresh from the boats.

Another new addition to the festival this year is an exciting and rewarding competition for young and aspiring chefs. Two lucky finalists will go head to head in a cook off at the Cookery Theatre on Saturday 26 September and one lucky chef will be crowned Plymouth Seafood Festival’s Young Chef of the Year.

Sarah Gibson (nee O’Leary), Plymouth Waterfront Manager said: “The Plymouth Seafood Festival provides a weekend celebration of food in the heart of the Barbican and Sutton Harbour, attracting thousands of people to the waterfront each year.

“We really appreciate having Plymouth Gin and Brittany Ferries on board as sponsorship partners. With their help we’ve grown the event this year to support hundreds of Waterfront businesses, attracting even more visitors to enjoy the cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops in the historic heart of the city.

“Families can also have fun with seafood by taking part in the Little Nippers Crabbing Contest and Catch of the Day. There literally is something for people of all ages – it’s going to be another great weekend highlight of the city’s cultural calendar.”

The Plymouth Seafood Festival is the finale event of the Ocean City Festival, which has been running in the city since Saturday 5 September.
