Popular authors including Lucy Worsley and Kate Mosse will be part of the International Agatha Christie Festival, 10 - 17 September 2022, celebrating the centenary of the world travels that inspired some of Agatha Christie’s greatest stories.

The Festival offers a week of suspense, surprise and sun on the beautiful English Riviera in and around Torquay with over 40 events including Meet the Author sessions, musical mysteries, family sessions and much more. Three of the world’s best-selling women crime writers Elly Griffiths, Dreda Say Mitchell and Kate Mosse will speak about reinventing Miss Jane Marple as part of the new short story compilation: Marple: 12 New Stories, to be published in September by HarperCollins to mark the centenary, 45 years since the last Miss Marple book was released.

Renowned historian and biographer Lucy Worsley opens the Festival, speaking about her new authoritative biography Agatha Christie: A Very Elusive Woman produced with exclusive access to many of Christie’s papers.

Other festival highlights include Christie expert, Dr John Curran, speaking on how Agatha Christie came to write her first crime novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles and how it influenced her writing career. Crime fiction author, Ruby Gupta, the Festival’s 2022 International Writer in Residence, from Dehradun, India, will be in conversation with best-selling author of crime novels set in India, Vaseem Khan. The Charles Court Opera will perform Express G&S, a musical murder mystery tour of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas while Framed!, a festival commission by Paddleboat Theatre for young families, will introduce a new generation to the mystery genre.

“This year’s Festival, marking the centenary of the Grand Tour that provided so much inspiration for Agatha, will celebrate with over 40 events including an energetic fringe festival.” says Daniel Schumann, Festival Director. “This year’s striking Festival image pictures Agatha aboard ship, about to experience the world beyond Devon which she was later to capture so memorably on the page. The Festival provides everyone who loves reading the crime fiction genre, and all those around the world who are fans of the work of Agatha Christie, a chance to meet new writers, new researchers, experts of Christie’s work on stage and screen. And all this while discovering new contemporary authors and practitioners who continue the literary tradition at the heart of the Agatha Christie heritage of the English Riviera.”

The International Agatha Christie Festival takes place days 10-17 September 2022. Tickets are available now from www.iacf-uk.org/festival-2022.
