Leading Southwest Independent School, Blundell’s, has appointed a new Director of Cricket Mr Dean Headley. Dean will be joining Blundell’s in the Summer Term 2023 from Stamford School, where he has spent the last 5 years as Director of Cricket and Assistant Housemaster.

Dean had a very successful career as a cricketer, most notably as an international playing for England from 1996 to 1999. His professional career spanned 11 years, he played for Kent, Middlesex and Worcestershire.

Dean has an exceptionally strong cricketing lineage; his grandfather George played for the West Indies and was hailed by many as the Black Bradman. His father, Ron, also played for the West Indies, Worcestershire, and Derbyshire. Dean broke the mould and represented England; however, he is proud to have continued the legacy of his father and grandfather to play International Cricket.

Dean is a father of three children and in his spare time he enjoys rugby, football, hockey, and golf.

He has a wealth of experience in coaching young cricketers having worked in schools for 13 years. The programme he has developed at Stamford Endowed Schools has been hugely successful and has recently been recognised by The Cricketer magazine.

Mr Liam Lewis, former Director of Cricket has said “It is fantastic that a coach with the pedigree of Dean is coming to Blundell’s to take over the running of our cricket programme. Our boys and girls will certainly benefit from his extensive knowledge, experience, and hugely infectious enthusiasm for the game.”

Dean commented “I am delighted to accept the challenge to build on the work Mr Lewis has achieved most recently at Blundell's. Growing a culture of cricket from Prep School right through to seniors is the ultimate goal, nurturing the elite and growing participation alongside. I am looking forward to developing links in the wider community in Devon and beyond. Devon is a part of the country I haven’t frequented much but from what I have been told, I can't wait to be down there!”
