Cancer Lifeline South West (CLSW) is preparing for a day of laughter, entertainment, and community spirit as it hosts its second annual Family Fun Day on Sunday 26th April, in the name of community and fundraising.

The event will take place once again in the beautiful grounds of Ugbrooke House, near Newton Abbot, and promises a packed programme of activities for all ages.

Since its founding in 2002, CLSW has provided therapeutic 'Time to Retune' breaks for people who have completed cancer treatment, along with their primary carers. These breaks offer a much-needed opportunity for attendees to process their experience and start looking to the future. This support is provided free of charge, and, with no public funding, the charity relies on fundraising days such as this to keep their service operating.

Visitors to the Family Fun Day can look forward to a dog show, which proved hugely popular last year, plus live music, games, craft stalls, and a food court to satisfy everyone’s hunger and thirst. Additions to the programme this year include zorbing and foot darts for the kids (of all ages).

Also new this year, visitors are invited to take a sponsored stroll around the grounds, to help with the overall fundraising. The routes (of which there are several) are around a mile long, so suitable for families and dog-walkers. Sponsorship forms can be downloaded from the CLSW website.

Last year’s event attracted hundreds of guests from across the south west, and the organisers are hoping for a repeat this time around.

"One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, and almost everyone knows someone who has been impacted by it," said Donna Cook, Chair of Trustees.

"The feedback we receive shows how valuable our breaks are for attendees, as well as for their families, friends, and colleagues. We hope this Family Fun Day will help us raise much-needed funds to continue offering this vital service."

CLSW is seeking sponsors and supporters to help cover the event costs, ensuring that all funds raised on the day go directly towards running the 'Time to Retune' breaks.

The charity is thrilled that Alexander and Lucy Clifford have once again donated the grounds of Ugbrooke House for the day, and that Newton Abbot Rotary Club will be managing the car parking. Trustee and event organiser Kate McCormick said, "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our partners and the community. Organising an event like this takes a lot of hard work, but we know it will be worth it when we see families coming together and having fun. Now we just need the sunshine to make it even more special."
