Devon-based ultrafast full-fibre broadband company, Jurassic Fibre has today announced that they will be supporting the Devon Tourism Awards.

The popular annual awards, which are now in their 12th year, recognise and showcase tourism businesses across the region who demonstrate excellence and innovation as well as resilience during the challenges of the pandemic. The awards cover the whole of Devon, including the English Riviera and Plymouth, as well as Dartmoor and much of Exmoor.

Jurassic Fibre will be sponsoring the New Tourism Business Award, which includes finalists: Bear Town in Cullompton, Brackenhill Glamping in Ivybridge, English Riviera Walking Tours in Torquay and Lydford Gorge Alpacas in Okehampton. The category recognises high performing new tourism businesses demonstrating excellent understanding of their market and exceeding the expectations of their customers with clear plans for future development.

The news comes as the internet service provider continues to expand their award-winning, ultrafast broadband network across Devon, which now covers villages to the East of Exeter, Exmouth, Honiton, Barnstaple, Sidmouth, Okehampton, Crediton, Teignmouth, Seaton and Bideford.

The roll out to date provides around 39K premises in Devon with the opportunity to benefit from Jurassic Fibre’s state-of-the-art, full fibre connectivity, offering internet speeds of up to 950Mbps for homes and 10Gbps for businesses.* More homes and businesses across Devon are set to be connected in the coming months.

Michael Maltby, CEO and Founder said: “By making ultrafast broadband more readily available to visitors in South West tourism hotspots, we will be helping to attract more people to the region.

“As a local business, passionate about championing the South West and improving its digital infrastructure, we are delighted to support these awards and help to showcase the outstanding tourism businesses situated right here in our home county.

“We keep our fingers crossed for each finalist and wish them luck!”

The Devon Tourism Awards will be held online Thursday March 10 2022.

Deborah Heather of headline sponsors Quality in Tourism says: “As my home county Devon has a special place in my heart and watching our beloved sector challenged this year has been terrifying and inspiring all at once. We have some remarkable businesses here; I can't wait to celebrate with them.”

Awards organiser Robin Barker of Services for Tourism added: “It has been so rewarding to see an increasing number of businesses enter this year’s awards, finding the time to apply despite all the hurdles being thrown at them. Reading the judge reports and stories of innovation, creativity and determination has been inspirational. Well done everyone.”

Jurassic Fibre’s fibre-to-the-premises broadband network build has already gathered significant pace across the South West, and is now live in 75,000 premises in the region, covering towns and villages throughout Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

Jurassic Fibre’s network expansion is part of a £250 million investment by Fern Trading, as advised by Octopus Investments, to build a full fibre network in the South West. The network, once completed, aims to cover over 350,000 traditionally hard-to-reach premises, which have previously been overlooked by other providers, representing a potential saving to the taxpayer of circa £10m.
