A young patient of Derriford Hospital has hatched a cracking plan for Easter.

Jasmine Bayly (15) was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis 1 when she was 8 years old, which resulted in the development of an inoperable brain tumour aged 13. She has spent most of the last two years undergoing Chemotherapy and knowing the difficulty of being confined to a hospital bed, Jasmine wanted to raise spirits amongst those who are away from home.

She conducted an Easter Egg collection at Heles School and word of her efforts spread to a variety of local businesses, who were equally generous in their donations. Jasmine then arranged a collection trolley at the two Plymouth branches of Sainsbury’s, which pushed the combined total to well over 1000 Easter Eggs, which will be distributed across the children’s wards at Derriford Hospital and the Child Development Centre.

Each Easter Egg had a personal message from Jasmine which read “I am Jasmine, I’m 15 years old and I have just completed 18 months of chemotherapy to combat an inoperable brain tumour. I know what it is like to stay in hospital during special occasions and wanted to do something to put a smile on your face this easter!”

Tanya Crago, Derriford’s Lead Paediatric Oncology Nurse said: “Jasmine is an absolute star; her efforts have brought a little bit of joy to each of the children in the hospital.”

Grace Evans, PR Ambassador at Sainsbury’s Marsh Mills, commented “We are very pleased to have supported Jasmine Bayly with her collection of Easter Eggs for the children’s ward at Derriford Hospital and the Child Development Centre. Due to the overwhelming success, some chocolate eggs will be given to patients in other wards, including Care for the Elderly and Oncology.”

Through this donation, Jasmine hopes to raise awareness of her condition and raises funds for the Neuro Foundation at http://www.justgiving.com/jazzgivesback to help research treatment.
