A leading housebuilder in Devon has this week extended its heartfelt thank you to NHS employees who have worked tirelessly to care for people during the Covid-19 pandemic this year.

Barratt Developments, parent company of Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, launched a new NHS Deposit Contribution Scheme in May offering up to 5% to help NHS staff buy a new home. A similar offer is also available to members of the armed forces.

Both schemes were due to close in December, but have now been extended to 18 June 2021 to give NHS workers, armed forces personnel and their families longer to benefit from the contribution of up to £15,000 towards buying any new Barratt or David Wilson home.

Take up has been particularly high at Barratt and David Wilson Homes developments near hospitals and military bases in Devon. Since the scheme launched in the spring, almost half of the homes reserved at Lucerne Fields, Ivybridge which is near Derriford Hospital and HMNB Devonport, have been sold with the deposit contributions.

40% of the buyers who have reserved a home at Raleigh Holt have benefited from the contribution since May, many of whom work at the nearby North Devon District Hospital.

Announcing the extension of the schemes across the country, David Thomas, chief executive of Barratt Developments, said:

"Our Deposit Contribution Scheme has already helped 1,000 NHS workers to buy their own homes, saving them more than £10m in the process, but we want to continue to support vital NHS workers in the New Year so we've extended it for six more months until June 2021."

Ian Menham, West regional director for Barratt Developments, which is currently building approximately 2000 homes in 36 new communities across the South West, added:

"We launched this scheme, which offers up to £15,000 towards a deposit, to express our deep gratitude to NHS workers in Devon who have worked so tirelessly to support and protect our communities in the face of the Covid pandemic. We're pleased to be able to extend our offer, and our thanks, as their vital work continues into 2021."

Sales centres on all Barratt and David Wilson Homes developments across Devon remain open for in person viewings by appointment only and for virtual appointments. A full range of Covid safety measures are in place.
