Travelling to France is always a fun experience, as there is so much to discover in this country. But if we are to travel, why not enjoy more clement weather as well? That is why the south of France is so interesting for Brits, so we can catch a tan in a few days. But instead of Cannes, Nice and Marseille, here are a few cities that are well worth taking time to discover, on your next trip in the region.

Find the right accommodation

The first thing you need to take care of, is to decide where you will leave your luggage. If you are going to travel to various cities while you are there, you need a central place, but also one where you can really relax and decompress, on days when you stay there. That is why camping in France with Canvas Holidays, is the way to go. After walking ten kilometers or more, enjoy the next day by the large swimming pool and all the other amenities you will find on site. You won’t have to move for 24 hours, so you can go back out on another city discovery tour the following day, fully rested.

Montpellier

Montpellier is the largest city we will mention in this article. However, it is a lot less visited than Marseille and Nice. It is a student city, hence dynamic, and there is lots of fun to be had in the evening, when you go out for a drink or to dance. Similar to Marseille, it features a multi-cultural population, which is also a major plus for those who like diversity. Culture reigns in Montpellier, and you’ll be able to visit unique sites reflecting the history of the region and the country. At the end of the day, you can decide to go for a swim, on one of the beaches nearby.

Barcelonnette

This city wears the name of a famous Spanish city (Barcelona). In French, it means “small Barcelona.” But it is much more than a reproduction of this town. Located at the base of the Southern Alps, the city offers a great starting point for many walking excursions. Let us mention two of them, starting with the Ubaye Torrent called the Riou Bourdoux. It used to be the most important one of the region, and now you can visit what it left behind, as it is now dried-up. The second one is called “Le sentier des Thuiles” and it will guide you through a path that will provide you with unique views of the city of Thuiles. The perfect destination for families that enjoy trekking. Barcelonnette also holds a unique Latin-Mexican festival, not to be missed, during the month of August.

Antibes

It would be a shame to miss out on discovering Antibes, while in the south of France. In fact, you could spend a few days there, as there is so much to see and do. But the best is certainly to lose yourself, walking around town on its cobblestone streets, to do a little shopping and to stop in restaurants where you will taste food that is simply divine (if you like your food a little on the heavy side).
