Newmedica Plymouth is one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women 2025
Sight-saving eyecare clinic Newmedica Plymouth is celebrating after the company was named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women 2025 by Great Place To Work®.
This accolade recognises Newmedica’s commitment to championing gender equality, supporting women’s career development, and fostering a truly inclusive work environment.
Among the many talented women working at Newmedica Plymouth are Frances Calladine and Shannon Page.
Shannon has been at Newmedica Plymouth for 18 months, having worked in the optical industry for nine years, beginning as an optical consultant. She began at Newmedica Plymouth as an ophthalmic assistant, before progressing to be a service engagement co-ordinator.
She said: “I really love working at Newmedica Plymouth because I feel recognised, appreciated, supported and listened to on a daily basis, so I’m very pleased to hear about this award because it really is deserved.
“Newmedica is truly a great place to work. I feel like I can further my career within the organisation and no goal is too big. In my short time at Newmedica, I have already proved that you are valued as an employee and encouraged to grow within the business.”
Frances has been at Newmedica Plymouth for one year, working as an optometrist. Before then she worked as an optical assistant and trainee manager. She went on to the University of Plymouth to do an optometry degree, and then she worked in private and retail opticians.
Since joining Newmedica Plymouth, Frances has qualified to perform laser surgery on patients and is doing an independent prescribing qualification at the City of London University to help with her role in the clinic’s hospital setting.
She said: “Newmedica is great for providing opportunities. I have already achieved so much in 12 months, and I know there is so much more to come. Not only does Newmedica recognise the importance of training, they appreciate you and they provide you with personal and professional support, making it a very rewarding and enjoyable job role.”
Newmedica Plymouth is owned and run by consultant ophthalmologists Ms Theodora Stavropoulou, Mr Tom Cudrnak, Mr Nick Edmeades and Mr Vasant Raman, as well as operational director Amanda Champion.
This recognition as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women follows Newmedica’s wider success, having also been named among the Top 50 UK’s Best Workplaces™ 2025 and UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Development earlier this year.
Caroline Harris, Service Manager at Newmedica Plymouth, said: ‘We are so proud of Frances, Shannon and our team as a whole. Getting recognition as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women is testament to the inclusive, empowering culture we strive for every day, and Frances and Shannon’s journeys with us are among many that we’re delighted about.’
