Diabetes UK is urging healthcare professionals who are committed to transforming care for people living with diabetes in their community to apply to be a part of an inspiring Diabetes UK leadership programme.

Healthcare professionals can now apply to join two inspiring Diabetes UK leadership programmes: Discovering Leadership and Clinical Champions.

These programmes are unique opportunities for healthcare professionals to develop their personal leadership capabilities and unlock potential in themselves and others to create real transformation in diabetes care.

Our Clinical Champions are chosen for their passion and commitment to excellence in diabetes. The programme supports health care professionals who are looking to tackle inequality in diabetes care or prevention.

The new Discovering Leadership programme has been created to support people who are at the start of their leadership journey, offering a series of free sessions to develop skills vital to support and develop outstanding care for people living with diabetes.

Phaedra Perry, Regional Head, Diabetes UK South West, said:

“The unprecedented scale and complexity of the diabetes crisis calls for strong and dynamic leadership at both a regional and national level. Upskilling healthcare professionals and nurturing leaders in diabetes care is vital if we are going to reduce inequity.

“As part of this work and commitment to reaching all communities we would like to increase representation of colleagues who are Black African/Afro-Caribbean in the programme cohort.

“Good care will lead to a reduction in diabetes-related complications, improving the quality of life for many people living with this condition and minimising its economic impact.”

Diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood because the body cannot use it properly. If not managed well, both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can lead to serious complications such as sight loss, amputation, kidney failure and stroke.
