Nautical Fun at Good Food Market
The popular Royal William Yard Food Market expands this month, with many exciting new attractions. Taking place on the first Sunday of each month it has quickly become one of Plymouth’s most popular events. A social hotspot, and a great place to meet friends whilst sampling some of the Westcountry’s finest food and drink.
July sees the introduction of Dan the Fishman who will be bringing along his fish barrow and cooking up a storm. Dan plans to griddle freshly caught wild and local sea bass, making a three fish chowder, and serve salmon and lobster cooked to order.
“I’m really looking forward to becoming part of the Plymouth monthly market” comments Dan “and I look forward to meeting new people in the fabulous Royal William Yard. I am proud to be representing local West country fishermen, I am great ambassador for sustainable fishing, and my ethos is ‘real fish for real people’. Bring your kids along for a free seafood treat!” Dan Garnett
Perfectly complimenting the seafood twist to the market this month are sea shanty singers Flash Jack.
“Our repertoire has shanties & ballads new & old, songs from a woman’s perspective, tunes associated with the coast & seafaring (both at home & abroad) & some ballads from the land, reflecting the strong link which has always existed between the songs from coastal districts & the songs sung by seafarers. We promise a good time will be had by all and encourage audience participation to make the most of it!”
There will also be a special appearance on Sunday from the National trust Tamar sailing barge "Shamrock", the last working Tamar Sailing barge in existence, considered to be the most advanced Tamar sailing barge ever built and taking a rare trip down the river from her permanent berth at Cotehele.
