A Theatre Royal Plymouth Young Company production, in association with Company Three and Nick Hern Books is taking place at The Dome in Plymouth’s Market Hall next week on 27 and 28 October, with tickets on sale now.

As world leaders gather for COP26 in November, When This Is Over is a play in which young people tell the stories of their lives. It is about those pivotal moments that change your life forever – staged at a pivotal time in history.

Issy, a Young Company Participant said: “When this is Over is a fantastic opportunity for the audience to become captivated in the magic of possibilities. This show highlights the importance of the past, present and future. Especially the future. Leaving audiences re-evaluating how the present moment influences the future of not only your life but of the wider society. It gives us the opportunity to explore a version of a possible realistic future affected by climate change and other developing political issues and how this would change life as we know it now.

I am really enjoying the process of devising our very own Young Company show. This new level of freedom has been so fun and interesting to play around with and it has definitely given me a new perspective on contemporary theatre making. The cast and creative team are very supportive which is amazing. It allows us to create a real and authentic show which hopefully shines through to our audience members.

I hope audience members take away a fresh and positive perspective of the importance of our future. I hope it inspires positive changes causing small steps towards a better society.“

This new play captures young people’s stories about the past, present, and the future. Presented in the newly refurbished Market Hall in Devonport, this will be unlike your normal theatre experience.

Samuele, another Young Company Participant said: “I think When This Is Over is important for audiences to see because of the insight into a younger persons perspective on lockdown and the state of the world in general. I’ve really enjoyed building a performance from the ground up, it feels like I get to input more of my personality on the show. I hope audiences can understand our points of view on the world and can enjoy our stories through our performance.”

Jane Pawson, Head of Learning at Theatre Royal Plymouth said: “This show explores the lives of these young people at a pivotal moment and I think it’s important that as we look to the future, beyond the pandemic, that we see the world through their eyes.

“We’re excited to be performing a show which will explore what young people want for their futures around the time of the COP26 when the outcomes of that conference will have a direct impact on what is possible for them. We’re also thrilled to be partnering with RIO to present this show in the 360 degree immersive dome in Market Hall allowing us to take the audience on a journey through time.”

This TRP Young Company show is being led by Company Three and in partnership with RIO. You can find out more about the When This Is Over project here.
