Theatre Royal Plymouth announces summer season
This summer Theatre Royal Plymouth welcomes the best of musicals, drama, dance and family entertainment to the South West. Musical favourites such as highly anticipated Sister Act and the opening of Crazy For You starring Caroline Flack and Tom Chambers.
Critically acclaimed plays such as National Theatre’s production of Hedda Gabler, which will open its UK Tour in Plymouth, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time take to the stage this spring.
Theatre Royal Plymouth continues to strengthen and grow its reputation for producing with Lies, a co-production with Belgian company Ontroerend Goed. The Funky Llama Festival, an inclusive event for adults with different abilities produced by Theatre Royal Plymouth, returns to Plymouth Hoe this summer with an exciting mix of bands, DJs, dance and drama from all across the UK.

Previewing on Thursday 1 & Friday 2 June
An exciting opportunity to see brand new work by Hofesh Shechter at one of just two previews ahead of the World Premiere in Paris. In this new full-length evening in a score which he composes for a group of spirited and eclectic instrumentalists who play on stage alongside his tribe of world class dancers.

Not Dead Enough

Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story

Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story tells the enduring tale of the musical icon’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 22. In 18 short months the Texas-born boy revolutionized the face of contemporary music influencing everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time
Monday 26 – Saturday 1 July
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is adapted from Mark Haddon’s best-selling book by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott. The show received seven Olivier Awards in 2013, including Best New Play, Best Director, Best Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design and five Tony Awards on Broadway including Best Play.

Based on the smash hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith, Sister Act
tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.
Gangsta Granny

Funny Girl

Funny Girl brought global fame to Barbra Streisand 50 years ago and boasts some of the most iconic songs in film and theatre history, including People and Don’t Rain On My Parade. This musical tells the story of Fanny Brice, whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star.

High energy, high kicking and gloriously glamorous, Crazy for You is the ultimate feel-good musical. Opening at Theatre Royal Plymouth and starring Tom Chambers and Caroline Flack it features a fabulous score from the Gershwin brothers’ songbook including I Got Rhythm, They Can’t Take That Away From Me, Nice Work If You Can Get It.
Babe The Sheep-Pig

Adapted from Dick King-Smith’s much-loved children’s novel which inspired the Oscar-winning 1995 film, Babe, The Sheep-Pig will be brought to life on stage in an enchanting new production.

Hedda Gabler

Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre, the NT will begin a UK tour of its acclaimed production of Hedda Gabler on 2 October 2017, opening at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Funky Llama Festival is back this summer bursting onto Plymouth Hoe with an exciting mix of bands, DJs, dance and drama from across the UK. This event is a totally inclusive event that is programmed by our differently abled Driving Force steering group. Funky Llama challenges stereotypes and celebrates the creative talents of adults with different abilities.
