Father Christmas will be telling stories and singing songs during four half-hour performances in the stables at Saltram, which have been decorated as a magical grotto. For the first time, these ‘relaxed’ sessions have been designed to welcome audience members who might benefit from a more informal experience, such as those with autism and sensory or communication needs.

Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to see Father Christmas. As a charity whose aim is to look after places for everyone, the team at Saltram wanted to make sure as many people could meet Father Christmas and hear him tell his magical stories.

As part of the festive experience, the garden will also be illuminated and enchanting fairy tales will be brought to life inside the house. And for the grown-ups who are tired of missing out and struggling to get into the Christmas spirit, there will also be a Storytime with Father Christmas just for them. This special performance will include a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate and a keepsake.

Fiona Macmillan, Visitor Experience and Marketing Manager, commented: ‘We are delighted that Father Christmas has agreed to stay with us for another Christmas as we know he’s very busy at this time of year. These story-time sessions are really entertaining for children and adults alike and help everyone feel the magic of this time of year. As a charity, we ensure that the money raised from every visit to see Father Christmas helps towards the upkeep of Saltram.’

It is essential to pre-book online to see Story-time with Father Christmas at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/saltram/whats-on. Price for adults is £3, child £6 (includes a keepsake). Price for the grown-up’s performance is £7 (includes a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate and a keepsake).

Enchanted Saltram is open from Monday 20 November – Saturday 30 December 10-8pm. Closed at 4pm Christmas Eve. Closed on Christmas day and Boxing Day.
