The Barbican & Sutton Harbour will be alive with entertainment, activities and delicious dishes as Britain’s Ocean City celebrates freshly caught seafood.

The popular Plymouth Seafood Festival returns this weekend and organisers are expecting a record turn-out as they look to raise money for the Fisherman’s Mission Charity.

“Plymouth is renowned for its Fishing industry and recently won the accolade of Blue Fish City, the world’s first city to be recognised for its sustainable seafood on offer within the many restaurants across the Waterfront area” comments Sarah Gibson, Plymouth Waterfront Manager, “Funded by Waterfront businesses, the Plymouth Seafood Festival has become a highlight in the city’s calendar and is a real treat for food lovers, with great cookery demonstrations, tasty delights to sample and a wealth of recipe ideas on offer.”

The Parade and Quayside Market will run throughout the weekend offering freshly caught seafood for visitors to sample, buy and take away. There will also be interactive demonstrations and a collection of Local Artists and craft stalls, whilst Dan the Fishman and crew will be cooking the finest Devon lobsters, crabs and local sustainably sourced fish and offering free children's seafood cooking workshops over the weekend.

Also for children, the popular annual crabbing competition will take place on Sunday (11-3pm) and see competitors go head to head to see who can catch the largest crab and the most crabs in a bucket. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the two runners up at the cookery stage at 4pm.

On the cookery stage Mitch Tonks will be demonstrating how to cook and serve inspiring seafood dishes (Sunday, 12:30pm). The Cookery Theatre will run on both Saturday and Sunday from 10:15am to 4:15pm and include chefs from River Cottage, Saunton Sands Hotel and The Dome amongst the many demonstrations taking place across the weekend.

Meanwhile, The Plymouth Fish Auction will enable the festival to raise money for the Fisherman’s Mission by donating 25% of monies raised to the charity as the public bid on the best fish the Plymouth Sound, and the Plymouth and Tamar Estuaries have to offer.
