St Andrew’s Pupils Embrace Creativity and Reflection During Spirituality Week
Pupils at St Andrew's CofE Academy in Buckland Monachorum, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, have been enjoying a meaningful and creative ‘Spirituality Week’, filled with opportunities to reflect, explore, and connect with the world around them.
Making the most of the recent sunshine, children took their learning outdoors to create beautiful spiral artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Using natural materials, pupils experimented with patterns and textures, showcasing impressive creativity and a strong connection to nature.
Alongside their artistic work, pupils also spent quiet time reflecting on the things they are grateful for. These thoughtful moments were expressed through drawings, with children sharing heartfelt and positive reflections that highlighted the importance of mindfulness and appreciation.
The week began with a special worship session led by Reverend Andy, where pupils explored the theme of awe and wonder, reflecting on the school’s wider vision: “I have come that they may have life, and live it to the full.” Throughout the week, activities have encouraged children to “look in, out and up”, developing curiosity, reflection, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
A highlight of the week was a visit to Buckfast Abbey, offering pupils a chance to experience a peaceful and inspiring environment for further reflection.
As part of the school’s focus on community and compassion, pupils also ran a tuck shop, raising funds for the Mary Budding Trust, a local charity supporting children in the area.
Spirituality Week has provided a valuable opportunity for the whole school community to pause, reflect, and reconnect, combining creativity, mindfulness, and a celebration of the world around them.
Debbie Nunn, Headteacher at St Andrew’s CofE Academy, said:
“Spirituality Week has been a truly special experience for our pupils. It has been wonderful to see them embrace moments of quiet reflection alongside such creativity and joy, particularly through their outdoor artwork and thoughtful expressions of gratitude. Opportunities like this help children to slow down, appreciate the world around them, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others.”
Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership, said:
“It is inspiring to see St Andrew’s creating such meaningful opportunities for pupils to reflect, explore, and connect. Spirituality Week beautifully captures the importance of nurturing the whole child, supporting not only academic growth but also wellbeing, empathy, and a sense of belonging. These experiences help children build strong foundations for life.”
