Queen Elizabeth's School Students Celebrate A-Level Success

Students at Queen Elizabeth’s School are celebrating today, Thursday 13th August, after receiving their A-level results, opening doors to universities, apprenticeships, employment and a wide range of exciting future opportunities.

The vast majority of students have achieved a place at their first choice university, with courses in everything from Archaeology to Zoology in locations the length and breadth of the country from Plymouth to York. Others are enjoying a year to travel and gain work experience with some students having secured jobs and apprenticeships locally in Exeter and mid-Devon.

Reece Carter secured top grades in English Literature, History and Theatre Studies and is now planning to undertake Film Studies at the University of Southampton. The theatre visits, especially to London, were favourite memories from his time at QE. Reece said: “One of the best things about Sixth Form was the strong relationships I built with other students and staff. It provided a really great support network for study.”

After gaining the school’s highest A Level grades in Biology, Psychology and Physical Education, Liv Frisby now goes on to study Biological Science at Cardiff University. Liv particularly valued the opportunity to study science in the field as part of her courses.

Evie Brotherton felt that having a close group of supportive friends and teachers was a really important part of the experience of studying in Sixth Form, she will now be able to apply the knowledge she gained while studying A Level Sociology, Psychology and Biology in her new role as a secondary school SEND Teaching Assistant.

Willem Snowdon has secured top grades in A Level Further Maths, Maths, Chemistry and Physics and is going on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield. As Head Boy, Willem played an important role in the school community, particularly with supporting other year groups. He said the Strasbourg visit to the European Parliament was a highlight of his time in Sixth Form and he recommended the school production as a great opportunity at Post-16.

The results cap another successful year for Queen Elizabeth's Sixth Form, which is part of the Ted Wragg Trust. A newly refurbished Sixth Form Hub has created a modern environment for independent study and collaboration, while students have benefited from an extensive programme of enrichment opportunities, including visits to the University of Cambridge, the University of Plymouth, and Brussels through the European Parliament Ambassador School Programme.

Sixth Form students also recently achieved outstanding success in this year's Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiads, with the school's Gold Award winners placing in the top 8.5% of over 17,000 participants.
