Plympton Academy students celebrate finishing Ten Tors Challenge
Three students from Plympton Academy are celebrating after taking part in this year’s Ten Tors Challenge.
Kian Shepherd, Ellie Buxton and Chris Mace joined teams made up of students from three other Plymouth schools.
Kian was in the Coombe Dean 45 mile team, Chris was in the Coombe Dean 35 mile Team and Ellie was in the Plympton Academy 35 mile Team. The Plympton Academy 35 mile team consisted of pupils from Plympton Academy, Coombe Dean, Devonport High School for Girls and Plymouth High School for Girls.
“It was a fantastic weekend,” said Volunteer team manager, Bob Costin. “Our teams walked out and walked back in as a team of six. That rarely happens so it’s a testament to their training, courage and commitment that everyone was able to complete the event.”
All the students have been training hard for the challenge since last Autumn. “We are extremely proud of all they have achieved,” said Bob. “It’s a real credit to all of the training group staff who give up so much time over nine months of preparation and training to ensure our teams are fully prepared to complete one of the most arduous challenges open to children between 14 and 19 years of age. We are already planning for Ten Tors 2018.”
“Everyone at Plympton Academy is very proud of what Kian, Ellie and Chris have achieved,” said Principal, Lisa Boorman.
